Here's a crop of talented hairstylists who think everybody deserves a new 'do without getting sheared. Remember their names.
Anita Santillo, Fandango
Being a hairstylist in hip Silver Lake these days means doing plenty of Mick Jagger shags (on
guys and girls), mussed-up bobs and traditional punk-rock 'dos. Stylist Anita Santillo juggles
them all beautifully. The California native, who's been cutting for almost a decade, says the
key to happy clients is minding the details and tailoring recognizable cuts to each individual.
Absolutely the best hair salon in Silver Lake...They specialize in curly-hair issues and have a steady Hollywood clientle. Owner Barb James was a high-octane punk in the L.A. scene and, predictably, she's also a master at color. It's a friendly and totally unpretentious salon, the hub of the community around this end of Sunset Junction. Their eight chairs are usually full, so call ahead. Star alert: Pee-wee Herman's a sometime regular, as are folks off Mad TV
Designer Corye Lynn Calter creates hip, feminine dresses in quirky, vintage-inspired prints.
"My favorite place to get my hair styled is Fandango Salon (1601 Griffith Park Blvd. 323-663-6965).
The energy is great, and my stylist, Anita Santillo, always gives me an amazing cut."

Best Stylist for Curly Haired Soccer Moms : BARBARA JAMES
Straight hair may all be alike, but every curl has a mind
of it's own. And James is the Che Guevara of the curl revolution
now, taking her clients from shoulder length to Halle Berry to
places in between with never a snip out of place. As an added
bonus Fandango makes even the soccer mom feel hip. The stylists
are a wildly beautiful post-modern crew of tattoos, piercings,
and ever changing hair colors- one stylist, Anita Santilli, even
has a 10 inch Jean Harlow tattoed on her calf. If they ever got
around to baby-sitting, take-out organic suppers and Plymouth
Voyager repair, curly headed soccer moms would never have to leave
the chair.
"I am most proud of the ironwork, the stations and the floor," says owner Barbara James. "All three incorporate a circular pattern that ties the salon's design together."
